Who Are We?
The Friends of the Seymour Public Library is a non-profit volunteer organization which believes in the importance of books and libraries for people of all ages. Through our efforts, we have been able to provide the library with much needed materials, furniture, and equipment that would otherwise be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain.
We also offer scholarships to Seymour High School students who are pursuing a career in Library Media Science, Communications, History or English.
What Do We Do?
The Friends and its slate of officers meet at the library 3-4 times a year to plan and organize fundraising activities and yearly events so that we can provide needed items to the library.
Over the years, we have been able to purchase a podium and microphone for use by organizations that use our library. Additionally, a slat wall for art displays, computers, printers, flat screen monitors, the sofa and window shade for the Children's room, the Book and Video Drops, interior and exterior signs, etc. have been purchased for the library through our fundraising activities.
We have also purchased memberships in the Peabody Museum in New Haven and the New England Air Museum. Passes are available at the front desk at the library, and they e allow any resident free admission to the attraction.
What Would We Like?
You can help us support meeting the Library's needs either financially -by making a donation to the Friends of the Seymour Library, so that we can continue to help the library obtain items where funding is not available.
Or, you can become a Friend and volunteer a small part of your time, ideas, and expertise to help with our annual projects--the Book and Bake Sales, Monthly Book Sales, or whatever aspect you may feel comfortable with. (This could also include WEB DESIGN!)
You might have had a relative, friend, or acquaintance who has passed on. If they were a bibliophile, what better way to honor their memory than to make a donation to the "Friends of Seymour Library" in their name so that others may experience their love of the written word?
Please take the time to fill out our support form when you visit the Seymour Library or complete our on-line form under "Contact Us".
Our library is a valuable resource for all Seymour residents--both young and not so young alike.
We are proud of what we have accomplished, and your help and support could make our efforts grow.
